Drugstore products have been wowing us for a while (lol). As you can see on my blog I have been talking about a variety of drugstore rave, like Maybelline Color Tattoo and L'Oreal Infallible Color. Now it's time for something more obvious - Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter.
Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter retails for $7~$12, CA depending where you buy it. I bought mine at Walmart for $7.98 when they first arrive in Canada. It was not exactly super affordable, but by then there were already tons of rave reviews going on. So I had to test it out to see for myself, and here are the shades I got:
055 Cupcake: A milky baby pink colour which reminds me of MAC Viva Glam Gaga I, but lighter, maybe more like the gloss version.
060 Sweet Tart: A bright neutral pink, is this description weird? It's not a everyday pink for me, maybe for special occassion.
075 Lollipop: A berry toned fuschia, I think I nailed it with this description lol. Anyhow, I love this colour that I would wear it on weekdays (okay, maybe just Friday... still a weekday! lol).
On Revlon.com, they describe it as "Buttery balm with beautiful shiny color to give you baby soft, healthy glowing lips 94% of women felt lips were softer, smoother, and instantly hydrated." I couldn't agree more with the first half of it. It feels like a balm and it gives a really shiny finish. Like the name suggests, its texture is very buttery, and glides on very smoothly. With deeper/brighter shades like Lollipop, even just lightly stamping it on your lips will give you enough colour payoff. For lighter shades like Cupcake, they're very easy to work with that you don't even need a mirror to apply.
As for the second half of the claim, it is very moisturizing, but if my lips are chapped, I don't think it'll fix it (it might accentuate it). It is more like a lipstick than a lip balm in that sense. However, if your lips are well conditioned, it will give you a nice shiny colour without drying your lips.
Another thing that I like (and dislike) about these lip butter is that they can be removed easily, which means they are very forgiving. Even if you make a boo-boo, a tiny swipe will easily fix that. However, this also means that it has no staying power. If you eat, you have to reapply; if you drink, you'll probably have to reapply; even if you do nothing, you'll need to reapply some time during the day. A little does go a long way, but you have to reapply that "a little" a couple times during the day for sure.
On to the packaging, it's a plastic container, pretty much like a tinted-transparent version of their Colorburst Lipstick range. I like these better than the black one because it looks more fun and girly. It also gives you a better idea of how the colours will look like just from the tube. It also doesn't feel too cheap, and kind of sleek too, which is always nice.
The amount of product you get is quite little, it's not as much as, say, chapsticks. Considering the number of times that you need to reapply during the day. I think it would be better if there's more product in the tube.
I do really like them, regardless of the price, because they do offer really nice colour payoff and are pretty moisturizing, especially for Winter. I am going to buy more shades. However, I would wait for sales, like BOGO50% off or just a cheaper price, since these are permanent.
I believe a lot of you already have tried them out. If you did, what colour do you think I should try next? If you don't, will you jump on this lip butter bandwagon? Let me know =)

ReplyDeleteI like the sweet tart.. the color is very pretty, the packaging too.
