In the past, I had become so disappointed with drugstore eyeshadows, all those quads/trios they sell at Walmart failed me badly. That's why I have been steering away from them. However, I must say that drugstore brands have been trying to up their game with their eyeshadows in the past year. And L'Oreal Infaillible Color might be the most intriguing one out of the bunch.
As for application, depending on the method you use to apply them, and what you have underneath it, you'll get different result. With your regular natural hair eyeshadow brush, this can go on very sheer. If you use a synthetic brush instead (the concealer brush type), it'll give a more pigmented application. I find that I get more colour payoff when I use my fingers, but it is not my favourite way to use this. My favourite way is to use a flat synthetic brush, much the a concealer brush or maybe Bobbi Brown's Cream Shadow Brush, to apply it WET. Yes, I would spray some MAC Fix+ to my brush and then dip the damp brush in the product. I think that this gives the best payoff and it's the most true-to-colour method.
Since all these colours are metallic/shimmery, I would not recommend to use them all together. I believe that sometimes shimmer can be too much. So I would recommend using a matte colour as base and place the shimmer to the place you need/want. Also, I ALWAYS use a primer underneath this, it prevents creasing. The wear for these are okay, I won't say they're super long wearing, maybe like 4-5 hours!? But I get a much longer wear when I use them with cream shadows, in particular, Maybelline Color Tattoo 24Hr Eyeshadow, which I have reviewed it the day before =).

I say that because it's not something that you've seen in the drugstore before. The best way to describe this is "pressed pigment in a pot". It's true, when I first saw it, MAC pigments popped up in my mind. This is, of course, a "pressed" alike of MAC pigments, so they're not as messy. Like I said, these eyeshadows come in a pot with a screwed top. It's not the fanciest packaging of course, but it's functional.

The colours I picked up are all, again, very wearable: 001 Time Resist White, 002 Hourglass Beige, 004 Forever Pink, and 012 Endless Chocolat.
- Time Resist White is a vanilla white with a very metallic finish. I don't think it has glitter in it but it's very shimmery. And it is really white under bright lights. I have use a tiny bit on my nose bridge and cupid's bow, it works quite well as a highlighter.

- Hourglass Beige is a metallic champagne colour (same finish as Time Resist White, no glitter either). Although I haven't tried it yet, I can imagine it working as well as Time Resist White as a highlighter.
L'Oreal Infaillible Color Hourglass Beige
L'Oreal Infaillible Color Hourglass Beige (Swatched)
- Forever Pink is a warm (dark) pink colour, again with the same finish with the previous two colour. It is gorgeous, but I don't know if I would use it that often, because it's pink. I would mainly just use it in the middle of my eyelid, or else I just look really tired.

L'Oreal Infaillible Color Forever Pink (Swatched)
- Endless Chocolat is a chocolate brown with a more subtle metallic finish. It is not nearly as shimmery as other colours that I have mentioned here. But it is still reflective. It's the most pigmented one out of these four colours I picked up.

Just for fun, I did the same sleeping test with these shadows (WITHOUT PRIMER). Since they're powder product, and there's not base they could stick on, naturally they all faded lol. But it's ok, because I'm not wearing them on my hand even when I'm wearing makeup =P.
Another fun thing... my swatch fingers lol... No?

So my final verdict is that they're good products, but I won't say they're superb, because it does require a little bit more effort to make them show the colour as they are in the pot... which I don't mind., but I can see that being troublesome for some people. The easiest way to get more payoff is to use your finger, so maybe they're not as "not messy" as I think they are. If you want to try it, I would recommend picking up one or two during sales. My favourite out of the four will have the be Hourglass Beige, because it is a softer colours, and the shimmer is not as "in your face". Endless Chocolat will be my second favourite because of its awesome pigmentation. I can use it dry and still get great results.
Have you tried these "pigments in a pot"? What's your verdict on them? Let me know in the comments!

I have. I tried "Infinite Sky". I like to apply it with my finger because it's the most true-to-pot application, but you're right - fluffier brushes give sheer application and denser, synthetic brushes give a more concentrated application. They didn't last 24 hours on my oily lids, but they held up wonderfully for about 9! I really like that chocolate brown shade!
ReplyDeleteI'm cursed with oily lids too. I HAVE to use a primer for this for sure. I'm glad that I'm not the only one who thinks that fingers give a better application. I think they might want to look into that!
ReplyDeleteThe chocolate brown shade is gorgeous, and it's not that shimmery on, which is great IMO. I have seen people using a matte white shade on YT, though I have not seen it in Canada, yet. =/. It might be my next purchase =P

I have been reading good things about these and the hourglass beige looks really tempting but I wonder would it look good on a medium skin tone i usually wear only one shade all over my lid but I am not sure if it will go with my skin or not
