As you might remember from last Monday's post, I talked about my weak and brittle nails and what I was going to do to try to fix it (See "Essie In Action: Weak Nails Saver... or Not?"). I promised that I will report my progress after one week of use. First, let's take a look at my nails.
Why did it got shorter? The answer is simple, the absent-minded me cut my nails =(. Oh well, but I could tell you that it has gotten longer. I don't usually file/cut my nails every week. So please forgive my stubby nails.
So did my nails grow stronger? Take a look at this picture:

In the above picture, I was using full strength (without hurting myself, of course) to put my nails against each other. They didn't bend. I remember just a week ago it could be bent quite easily.
I have also noticed that my nails have not been chipping. Not nail polish chipping, but actual nail chipping, peeling off the base. This got me thinking that the Essie Grow Stronger Fortifying Growth Treatment is actually working. Here's a before-and-after:
So I think it deserves a little introduction in this post =)
What is this product:
From the packaging... Essie Grow Stronger is a nail treatment that "fortifies nails to optimize growth". Key ingredients of this product include: "Gingko Biloba and Vitamin E hydrate to nourish, Mineral Strengtheners, Nail hardeners to strengthen weak nails". It claims that it is "scientifically proven to reinforce and help promote health growth": "30% stronger nails in 5 days, up to 29% longer nails in 5 days, nails grow harder, more resilient".
How did I use it:
Every night, after shower, I will remove the old coat of Grow Stronger with nail polish remover. I will then apply two new coats of Grow Stronger. I repeated this process for 7 days.
Result:
After a week of use, my nails are noticeably stronger and less prone to peeling/cracking. It has also grown longer, but I cannot tell if this is because of the treatment or the natural growth of the nails. As an added bonus, since polish is not, I have no tendency to bite my nails like I did before when I am thinking hard.
Summary:
Overall, I think it worked for me. I am going to continue using it, but maybe not a new coat every night, 'cause I'm lazy like that lol. If you're in the market for a nail growth treatment for your soft, weak nails, you might want to check out Essie Grow Stronger.
I think I will do a little update post a month later to see if my nails stay like this. I hope this helps some of you who are on the hunt with a nail treatment. If you do end up trying it out. Let me know how it goes!

Nice! I was looking forward to this post! I can't really tell if there is a colour difference but the fact that you said you can't bend your nails anymore and there hasn't been any peeling is good enough for me :)
ReplyDeleteI love your pictures, where/how do you take them? I don't get much natural light the times that I'm actually home so it's SUCH a challenge!
I think I should try this! My nails are awful!
ReplyDeletehaha... no peeling is the best part. I hate it when I can peel the top layer of my nails... I also secretly like doing so... But it's never good for the nails!
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks! For my lightbox, I use two foam board, fold them in halfs and taping them together to form a "corner", then I put a piece of large white paper on top to create the "infinity" look. For the lightings, I got two fluorescent light bulb (natural day light type) and two lamps from Walmart. Place them on the left and right next to my camera. Sometimes it works, sometimes it's just okay. You kind of have to play around with the lightings. I think I need another lamp to make my life easier lol.

To me this is not bad at all. I heard that buffing your nails before nail polishes also help!? Oh, and I got it from our beloved place... Walmart LOL

I don't have problems with nail breakage, but I like the slight tint this product has.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice eh! I think it'll make a great base colour for an ultra natural french mani =). Or just wear it as it is, especially it's supposed to be good for the nails ;).
ReplyDeletex Rica
Hi. I wonder if this product was still good after a month of use.
ReplyDeleteI think this is a fab product ...I don't remove it & reapply it daily ...why waste it? It wears very well - I remove & repolish about every 5 days. It stays on my nails like nothing else ...through dish washing & household chores. Nothing has ever lasted more than a day on my nails. My nails are growing too. Highly recommend - but to keep your nails nice, you need to continue using it - this acts as reinforcement for your nails, so your nails can grow. Also makes a great base coat - like I said, polish never stayed on my nails for more than a day until Essie Grow Stronger - with this as a base coat, I can get 4-5 days out of a color change - yay! I will try some of their color now too, as this was the first Essie product I have tried. I couldn't be happier.
ReplyDeleteI will definitely give it a try! I think I would use it in spring and autumn. Every spring I have te same problem - braking nails...
ReplyDeletei would try this for sure...your nails seem so strong...!
ReplyDeleteI have terrible nails, they bend so much! Will try this product
ReplyDeleteMy nails are very thin and bend very easily too, I think I should try this out.
ReplyDeleteLovely post. This looks really good. My nails are very weak, brittle and prone to peeing so I think a product like this one would be a good investment for me. x
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment. Essie is becoming one of my favourite nail polish brand!
ReplyDeleteIt is not as liquidy as it was first opened, but it's still useable. I would add some acetone in it to reliquidfy it
ReplyDeleteMe too... I should try this again myself!
ReplyDeletemine too! They seem like they need nail polishes to hold them together :/
ReplyDeleteI may need to try this! I need stronger nails and this looks like it could work for me.
ReplyDeleteJust a quick tip - nail polish remover dries nails so it's recommended try to use it no more than once every 5-7 days. if you would like to reapply the strengthener you could apply an extra coat every other day.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip! I will pay more attention to it :)
ReplyDeleteGreat iDEA!
ReplyDeleteI will definitely give it a try
ReplyDeleteAhh I think I should to try this!! good review :)
ReplyDeleteThey look great ! xo
ReplyDeleteI wish that polish were sold in Argentina! It looks very good :)
ReplyDeleteOne thing is sure!
ReplyDeleteI must try this product!
I allready love this brand!
I really need to try this too! They look really good!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds pretty nice! I've been using OPI's Nail Envy for a few years and my current bottle is almost empty... might have to give this one a try!
